Raspberry Pi cron install errors

Raspberry Pi cron install errors

Postby illingd » Mon May 14, 2018 6:05 am

I have exagear desktop on a Pi 3b+
It seems to work fine - I have used various software in the x86 environment with no problems.
However, I wanted to set up some scheduled tasks on the Pi (including one in the x86), so I looked at the Pi help topic on cron at https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/linux/usage/cron.md

It suggested installing a gui for cron using:
sudo apt-get install gnome-schedule

When I ran this (seemed to take forever) I got these nasty looking warnings during the installation:

Setting up cron (3.0pl1-127+deb8u1) ...
update-rc.d: warning: start and stop actions are no longer supported; falling back to defaults
update-rc.d: The service *cron* exists both in host and guest systems.
This configuration is not supported; please refer to the user guide for more details.
invoke-rc.d: The service *cron* exists both in host and guest systems.
This configuration is not supported; please refer to the user guide for more details.

and
Setting up rsyslog (8.4.2-1+deb8u2) ...
update-rc.d: The service *rsyslog* exists both in host and guest systems.
This configuration is not supported; please refer to the user guide for more details.
invoke-rc.d: The service *rsyslog* exists both in host and guest systems.
This configuration is not supported; please refer to the user guide for more details.

I'm assuming the references to "host and guest systems" indicates a problem with exagear?

Can anyone advise please?

Could you please clarify where did you run the command
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install gnome-schedule

in ARM terminal or in the guest x86 terminal?
You should install it in the native ARM terminal as you are using instructions from RPi documentation.

I did the command in X86.
Afterwards I have done
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get remove gnome-schedule
in the X86 and then
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install
in the native ARM environment.
Now it works OK.
