[SOLVED] Howto install Printer with x86 driver on PI3

Postby Doodieb » Sat May 26, 2018 9:46 am

Hi,
I've been trying to install my Printer which only has an x86 Driver with Exagear on my PI3, but did not succeed.

I installed CUPS on the host as well as in EXAGEAR and installed the Printer Driver in Exagear. I can see the Printer in Cups, but it claims a missing wrapper file. I found the wrapper file in Exagear, copied it over to the host. Now no complaint about the missing wrapper, but it does not print.

I assume that the wrapper file is x86 architecture so it can not work in the host. How can I point CUPS to use the wrapper file in Exagear and execute the print Job in the Emulator?

Any hint is appreciated!

OK I've got it to work :) even thought the Brother printer driver is Linux x86 only!

This is what I did:

Install cups and a2ps in host
Install cups and a2ps in exagear
Install the printer driver in exagear
copy the wrapper over to the host (/usr/lib/cups/filter/)
in /usr/lib/cups/filter/brlpdwrappermfc490cw add
Code: Select all
exagear --
in front of the commands brcupsconfpt1 (2 places) and in front of the command filtermfc490cw (1 place)
restart the cups System and print a test page from cups

This description is messy; maybe exagear can write it down in a nicer Format, since this is another neat application of exagear and in fact saved me from buying a new printer with cups [armhf] support

Good luck!
